Gateway Hotel & Suites, Ascend Hotel Collection

We booked a last minute weekend trip to OCMD, we try to come at least once a year to enjoy the boardwalk and walk around, and go to Buxy's for the Steelers.

The staff at the hotel are really lovely. Shout out to the lady in her sparkly Steelers shirt on game day.

The room was simple, lovely little balcony (overlooking the pool that is closed for the season). The only complaint I had was the dumpster is literally right under most of the rooms on the "interior" side of the hotel and we were woken up before 5am by it getting emptied. thanks dumpster dudes. Not the hotel's fault.

The shower was kind of cool too. I thought it was just a shower stall but it is a really cool alcove. The showerhead has LED lighting to indicate that the water is cold (blue), "just right (green), or too hot (red). That was sort of a neat touch and now I want one for home.

The hotel is situated between Baltimore and Philadelphia Avenues, so not on the boardwalk. But a block-off is nice and close. It is at the southern end of the boardwalk area, First Street is the block it is on. We've usually stayed way up around 26th street and wanted to try the other end.

We'll probably be back to OCMD in the spring and will pick Gateway again!

I've been staying at Gateway for the past three years, and it’s always been a great experience. The rooms are clean, comfortable, and nicely updated, and the front desk staff are consistently kind and helpful. The location is excellent—just a couple of blocks from the boardwalk and right over the bridge from tons of shopping. Parking can get pretty full, but I’ve never had an issue finding a spot. And for how close it is to the beach, I think the price is great. It’s become my go-to place to stay in OCMD, and I look forward to coming back every year!

*Located close to the boardwalk. Employees were friendly, especially Mike, energetic and professional an absolute joy to have at check in! Rooms were clean, bed was very comfy. ALOT of light comes through around the curtains from the automatic balcony lights and sunlight.
*In the family room next to the lobby there is a fuseball table, sofas, vending machines. Coffee,tea,hot chocolate available between certain hours. They also have a cornhole game out on the front lawn.
*Pool is located on the second floor, above the parking area. Not very big, but there were a lot of chairs around it.
*I think all rooms had a small balcony, either faced the street or the pool/parking area.
*Only issue we had was the metal door lock (one you flip once you're inside that has taken the place of chains/deadbolts) somehow flipped out after we closed the door and we were unable to get back inside. A staff member had to go through the next room, and use the balcony entrance to get inside our room. I have never experienced that before, neither did the staff member. We placed a thin hairtie around it so it wouldn't happen again and just removed it when we were in the room.
Otherwise, we enjoyed our stay and would stay here again.
