Commander Beach House Hotel

After reading the reviews online and already paying for the reservations for stay at the beach house, I was very nervous and worried about what the place would be like when we got there. It was just my husband and myself. We stayed the King Deluxe room on the first floor. Yes it was small, but it was perfect for just he and I. We didn’t need or expect much other than a clean place to stay. It was very clean, there was a pleasant clean smell throughout the building, the rockers on the front porch were nice, the price was good, and the staff was friendly. There was an ice machine, soda, and snack machine conveniently available. It was within walking distance to the beach. We enjoyed our stay and will be back! .

Terrible experience. My boyfriend and I were able to come to the beach a day early and the day of booked a room at the Commander beach house for just a night. We arrived at 11 pm after driving 3 1/2 hours after we got off work. Check in is at the Commander hotel on the boardwalk which is across the street from the beach house hotel. Check in went smoothly and we given our room keys. Upon arrival into our room we immediately noticed the room was not clean. There were multiple areas of hair on the sheets, a large stain by the pillows on the sheets, two small brown stains on the other side of the sheets near the pillows, and hair in the shower and bathtub. I immediately reached out to the front desk and they stated that we could be moved to another room at the beach house. The front desk worker came and got us and walked us to our new room. Walking into that room it was noticeably disheveled, had an extremely strong mildew/must odor, and had the same housekeeping problems as the first, hair all over the bed. We promptly stated that this is unacceptable and we want to be moved to the Commander Location on the boardwalk. After several minutes of waiting to hear back from higher up management, we were told it would be an additional $180, on top of what we already paid, to get moved to a room at that location. We were upset by this offer due to the fact that we already paid for a room and were brought to 2 dirty rooms. Cam, the front desk worker, whom was directly advocating for us and upset by the situation, was trying everything he could to
make things right for us. Once he saw both dirty rooms for himself he decided to move us to a new room across the street for no additional charge. We were not given keys and able to be in the third room until 1:20 am due to the constant back and forth with Cam and his superiors. Overall, we were pleased by how Cam handled the situation, but by no means pleased by the hotel. At check out, we went to the desk to confirm we had no additional charge for the room and they confirmed that Cam was able to upgrade us for free. The cost of the room at The beach house was not refunded to us after the bad experience and long wait to get this figured out. I think as a whole the commander can do better and provide a clean environment for their guests. Absolutely do not recommended and will never stay here again. Pictures of the room attached below.

The rooms at the Commander Beach House are outrageously small!! Had to crawl into the far side of the bed because the beds were against the wall! The main location seemed nice, so I believe to keep the Commander name reputable they need to tear down the beach house and build something new or do a major renovation and make one room out of two to add space. The reason I am giving two stars is because the staff were excellent and friendly!
