Shore Point Cottages
The location was perfect for us. It's between Assateague and the boardwalk. The space was perfect for our family of 3. They also allow pets. We saw many people walking their dogs. The air conditioning and ceiling fans felt wonderful. The beds were comfortable and everything was clean. Check-in and checkout was easy. The property is well maintained. There was no interaction with staff which didn't bother us. The cottage is so much better than a hotel. This will be our go to everytime we visit.

Where to begin… We were excited to stay at Shore Point Cottages due to its location just a few minutes from the beach, pool, and charming cottage style. Unfortunately, the reality fell short. Check-in was strictly at 4pm — literally not a minute earlier — yet our cabin wasn’t ready. If you are going to be that strict with your guest policies, you at least have to hold up your end of the bargain.
We waited another 25 minutes past check-in while they finished cleaning despite being told by the manager it would just be 5 minutes and she was nearly done cleaning. We were told the high turnover was to blame — but during peak summer season, you’d think they’d plan accordingly for the higher influx.
Once inside, things felt careless. The soap in the kitchen had clearly been watered down from the previous guest, and the walls — especially in the smaller bedroom — were covered in scuff marks. There was even some kind of glue-covered strip left on the floor. These may seem like minor things, but they add up and show a lack of attention to detail.
Later, we tried to enjoy the screened-in porch, which was one of the nicer features — until the strong smell of cigarette smoke from a neighboring unit made that impossible.
The next day, while trying to relax by the pool, the same manager came over to talk to us in front of other guests - which I assume was prompted by the review I had left on Hotels.com (where I described our check-in as “disappointing”). He questioned how our experience had been apart from the check-in, but again this was while we were in the pool…trying to salvage some sort of relaxation. This was infuriating on many levels - 1. We are trying to relax, just let us be. 2. I did not think it was a great idea to lay out the remaining bad things adding to our experience in front of the other guests.
I told the manager we would be departing early and cutting our trip short. He then said he was going to offer us a 1pm check out instead of 10, but at that point, we were over it. Embarrassed and frustrated by the public encounter, we left the pool immediately, packed up our things, and left.
I saw other families who seemed to be enjoying themselves, but for us, the experience was a huge letdown — and a waste of our very rare time off. With so many other places to stay nearby, I wouldn’t recommend Shore Point Cottages. I just wish I had read more reviews before booking. It seems rare for them to respond to negative feedback and when they do, the robotic and generic responses do little to inspire confidence that they value guest experience.

The cottages themselves are nice - although very small. We are a family of six and the two bedroom cottage was far too small because. The property grounds are quite nice and the location in proximity to the beach is great. However, when we arrived we encountered a literal fly infestation in our cabin. My husband kills 40+ flies. We called the 24/7 hotline and the lady was very nice. She moved us to a new cabin where we did have to kill 7-8 flies, but it was much better. That said, both cabins were dirty at the surface level. Not things like mold, stains, etc. but there was dog hair ALL over the floor in our first cottage and all over the bedding as well. In the second cottage, it was a bit better, but the bedding didn't come close to meeting my cleanliness standards. While I would not stay again, it could definitely be an enjoyable stay for a small family - if the proper cleaning is done first.
