When Jeremiah and his crew were willing to teach the Advanced Open Water (AOW) diver course thru OC dive boat I was excited. I paid $520 on 7/16/16 for 5 dives and the materials to complete the AOW course. I was a solid open water diver, but on my first dive in Ocean city, I found I was unaccustomed to the cold water temperature and quickly surfaced. On my second dive that day, I knew what to expect and was much more comfortable. The Divemaster didn't go over any books or educational material regarding the AOW course nor did I receive any books.
I scheduled a trip for 8/2016. Four days prior to the trip I fractured my collarbone. I emailed Jeremiah from the emergency room to let him know I would be unable to dive. I could not dive with a fractured collarbone since I would be unable to carry an oxygen tank.
Fast forward to 2017... in June, I started to email about dive trips and availability. At first, no response was received, after several more emails I received a response saying " when he got the boat in the water and ready to start for the season, I'll get back to you"
I never heard back.
March 1st 2018- I sent an email asking for a partial refund of my initial $520. At this point, I still hadn't received any books or course material and never heard back from Jeremiah the rest of 2017. I also had completed my AOW and received my certification in February, since I didn't think Jeremiah was taking out dive trips. No response was received.
May 1st, I called my credit card company and started a dispute. Later, My credit card company received a response saying that he was willing to give me a partial refund of $250.
May 17th, I call and email.
May 18th, I receive a response from Jeremiah saying "they do not offer credits or refunds and that I locked up their payment system for over a month, not allowing them to process transactions online thru their PayPal system causing liquid damages." This contradicts what they sent my credit card company. I paid via PayPal and had never heard of my payment via credit card causing damages prior to this email. I was sent an invoice thru PayPal 6/30/16, sent payment 7/5/16. Jeremiah acknowledges the payment on 7/5/16 by responding in an email "got the payment, thanks"
In the end, my argument is I paid for 5 dive trips, course materials as well as instruction, and only got 2 trips. This is why I am requesting a partial refund. I should have utilized a local dive shop with integrity and honesty, who would not contradict themselves in less than a week.
