This Juneteenth, join Worcester County in commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. It's a time to celebrate freedom, reflect on history, and learn about the rich African American heritage that continues to shape our community.
Unforgettable Juneteenth Events:
Freedom Walk and Celebration: Kick off your Juneteenth experience on Saturday, June 15th, from 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM. Hosted by the African American Heritage Society of Snow Hill and Surrounding Areas, this event features a walk past significant African American landmarks in Snow Hill, followed by a celebration with guest speakers, delicious food, vendors, music, and more! The celebration takes place at Byrd Park (400 Dighton Avenue, Snow Hill, MD 21863).
Open Mic Night with a Cause: Unleash your talents or simply enjoy the show at the Sturgis One Room School House Open Mic Night! Held on Friday, June 21st, from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM at Dockside Restaurant (2 Riverside Drive, Pocomoke City, MD 21851), this event features singers, poets, and spoken word artists. Sharnell Tull, a.k.a. Sista Big - The Poet, will host the evening, and 10% of the proceeds benefit the Sturgis Museum.
Sturgis Museum Juneteenth Celebration: Immerse yourself in history and community on Saturday, June 22nd, from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The Sturgis Museum (209 Willow Street, Pocomoke City, MD 21851) throws a free event with museum tours, door prizes, live performances, a bounce house for the kids, food vendors, and more! Guest speakers include Sharnell Tull and community partners.
