Higgins Crab House South

Nice stop for shellfish/crabs/fish/etc…. May be a tourist spot, but great for tourists. Had the steamer pot and a salad with shrimp. Both were very good. Upstairs seating on the deck made for a great atmosphere. Busy and had to wait but I guess that seems to be the case with all the seafood joints in OC.
Restrooms on the upper deck do need to be cleaned better though.

Overall, the food is really bad here now. My wife and I went here a few years back and the crab cakes were delicious. That is not the case anymore. They are barely broiled and are definitely unseasoned. You can see in the pictures below, from what they were to what they are now. They also don’t have lump crab meat. For the price point of $43 for two crab cakes, you’d think you’d get some lump.

We also tried the cream of crab soup, which tasted like nothing but cheese. It also had virtually no crab in it.

I had the all you can eat crabs. I thought they were decent. They are on the smaller side but were very meaty. My biggest complaint would be they had a slightly weird after taste. They were not freshly steamed. They must have been heated up. I assume this is why they had an odd after taste. Regardless not horrible. Still decent crabs. The corn was great. Not a fan of the hushpuppies. The orange crush I had was alright but nothing special. The service was great and quick. Staff were very friendly. I would try it again but maybe not all you can eat next time.
