Commander Hotel & Suites

This review surprises me. Been coming here with my family for over 12 years. Love this hotel. Best view. Best rooms and service. We sampled others before but we love The Commander. As of 08/30/26, we have noticed the deterioration of the hotel and for whatever reasons, lack of to repair, maintain or up keep its apparance and condition. This review is a notice and is to be used please to address the issues and get this hotel back on track. We don't want to go anywhere else but the changes have to be made. And off course, the cost has not dropped but risen amongst the depreciation of the hotel.

The rooms and beds are sandy after cleaning.
The patio doors can't open or lock properly.
The blinds and not functioning properly.
The shower water pressure is very low.
The corridor carpet is filthy.
They canceled the simple complimentary coffee at reception. Gave vouchers instead.
The complimentary beach chairs are gone.
No one ever cleans the patio deck. Always Sandy.
Came to use the outdoor pool at 10am and was told it has to be treated and we cannot go in. Lost about 2 hours waiting and we got tired and went to the beach. Pool maintenance should be done after or before it's open. Not during paid guest time. Poor planning and execution. Falls on management again.

Hosted stay at The Commander Hotel in Ocean City, Maryland.

Overall, we had a really great stay. The customer service was excellent from check-in to check-out, and the room was clean, spacious, and had 2 queen beds with oceanfront view, which makes you forget most of your problems immediately.

The location is unbeatable. You’re right on the Ocean City beach and steps from the boardwalk, so everything is walkable… including your excuses to not leave the beach all day.

A couple of small notes: the bathroom could use a little TLC, as there were signs of rust on the curtain rod. Not a dealbreaker, just more of a “maybe don’t stare too long” situation.

Parking runs about $25–$35 per day depending on the option you choose, so definitely factor that into your stay budget.

They also offer both an indoor and outdoor pool, though we didn’t use them because the ocean was doing its job too well to compete with.

Overall, we would absolutely stay again and recommend it for anyone visiting Ocean City who wants oceanfront access, walkability, and a solid beach hotel experience.

I can’t say enough good things about the Commander Hotel Beach House. From the moment we arrived, we were treated like family, and that’s thanks in large part to Darren.

Darren went absolutely above and beyond for us. He was patient, attentive, and genuinely cared about making sure our stay was perfect. Nothing was ever too much trouble — he anticipated what we needed before we even had to ask, and he did it all with a smile. When we ran into a problem with the Internet, Darren and the rest of the hotel staff jumped on it immediately and had it sorted out fast, no excuses and no runaround. That kind of service is rare these days, and it turned what could have been a frustrating moment into the best day of our trip.

The entire staff deserves recognition. Every single person we encountered was warm, friendly, and helpful. You could tell this is a team that takes real pride in the property and in taking care of their guests.

The property itself is fantastic. It’s large enough that you can explore three separate areas, and there was plenty of room to accommodate everything we needed. The porch is a wonderful place to sit and unwind. The air conditioning was ice cold, the refrigerator and microwave were a huge plus, and the bathrooms and rooms were immaculate. Everything was clean and well kept.

My family was happy the entire stay, which is the highest compliment I can give. We will absolutely be coming back — and Darren, if you’re reading this, thank you!
