Poorly maintained, mold in rooms

Pros:
- location: we loved how close it was to the boardwalk, just a 15 minute walk to the inlet.
- Great setup for a group, we got two rooms next to each other and appreciated the exterior door and private porch just for our two rooms. It was a great layout for going between the rooms and hanging out.
- Aside from some spiders there weren’t any bugs that we could see.
Con’s:
- It is clear this property is not being properly maintained. There was a large amount of mold in the bathroom and it felt like the place was falling apart in general. The flooring was clearly done as cheaply as possible and there are many large gaps. The paint and woodwork on the window in the shower was falling apart. There were many stains throughout the unit. The pullout couches were dirty and uncomfortable.
- I tried several times over my two night stay to go to the office to talk to someone about this and the office was empty every time I went in.

I really wanted to like this motel because of the layout and location but I don’t think I will be staying here again until they clean the place up.

This hotel is literally a public health hazard. I would strongly urge anyone considering staying here to reconsider. Along with it being unsafe to stay the owners are taking absolutely no accountability and refusing to respond to Booking’s request for a full refund. Booking should also be ashamed of themselves for even listing this hotel on their platform.

My sister and I were supposed to stay here from October 4th through 6th. We were given keys to room 3, upon walking into the room all we could smell was mold. The shower in the bathroom was covered in mold and looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in months. There was yellow stains and hair on the bathroom sink. The room felt so dirty we started looking at the beds for evidence of bed bugs but instead found more mold. Black mold ON THE BED! We went to the office to request another room or be given a refund. The man at the front desk said that he was a family friend/plumber helping out over the weekend. He didn’t know how to use the computer system and couldn’t get ahold of the owners. He then showed us room 2. The stench of weed so was vile and the bathroom was covered in mold just like the other room. He told us he had two other rooms he could show us but we had seen enough. He then told us that it would take too much time during the on season to strip the caulk in the bathrooms and recaulk… but how much time would it take to actually clean with a mold and mildew remover? Pure laziness and greed.

This place is absolutely disgusting. The owners should be ashamed. The city should come in and demand it be fixed or close it down.

As I stated before the owners are dodging communication from Booking in regards to a refund. Booking’s suggestion was leaving a review, which I was going to do anyway. I can not in good conscience not review this hotel. Be warned… this hotel is DISGUSTING and the owners are irresponsible and greedy.

We stayed at the Blue Wave Inn during the Oceans Calling event, and unfortunately, our experience was far from pleasant. Upon arriving, we discovered that our A/C unit was broken. While the thermostat read 68°F, it was only blowing warm air, and our room felt like 80°F with high humidity.

To make matters worse, there was no one available at night to help us with the issue. The next morning at 9:00 a.m., we informed the one staff member on site about the broken unit. He said he would “look into it.” After waiting a couple of hours and following up post-breakfast, we got the same response: he’d “look into it.” He then told us to wait in the office until the employee who was supposed to be working the desk showed up, but by 2 p.m., nobody was there. Instead of addressing the A/C issue, the guy responsible was busy selling the motel’s parking spots for $60 each to people attending the Oceans Calling event.

Finally, around 2:30 p.m., someone showed up at the desk. When I explained our situation again, they assured me that someone would look at it. I asked if we could switch rooms since the A/C clearly wasn’t getting fixed, but I was told the motel was fully booked. However, the staff member had keys to what looked like 20 different rooms, making me doubt that claim.

By the time we returned later that night, nothing had been done to fix the A/C. In fact, we had unplugged the unit earlier in the day, and it was still unplugged when we got back—showing it hadn’t even been touched.

Overall, the service was incredibly disappointing. The staff seemed more interested in making money from parking spots than helping guests, and the lack of action on a basic issue like a broken A/C ruined what could have been a much more enjoyable stay. Would not recommend.
